1.0 Carl Reaman called the meeting to order at 7m at the Northview Community Centre
2.0 Carl made an announcement that he didn’t believe he could hold a position as President of the club considering he doesn’t use internet/computer. He agreed to chair the meeting and to continue as Vice President of the club hereafter. Todd Smith agreed to step up to the President position following this meeting.
3.0 Minutes of the last meeting were read. A motion to accept the minutes as read was made by Allen Love and seconded by Randy Love. PASSED.
4.0 Business arising from minutes:
4.1 Whitby Firearms By-Law meeting: The first meeting did not happen. They held another meeting Tuesday March 19. They are planning to enforce a no-shoot zone of 300m around the Town of Whitby. OFAH made recommendations that 100m is sufficient due to the fact that high powered rifles will be restricted.
5.1 Valleys2000: we received a thank you letter in lieu of our donation/attendance at their fundraising dinner.
5.2 FishAbility: we received a letter requesting donation to their Kids Fishing Day for disabled youth.
5.2.1 A motion was made to donate $400 to FishAbility’s Kids Fishing Day 2013 by Frank Wick, seconded by Randy Love. PASSED.
5.3 DUC: We received a copy of the Conservator, their magazine/newsletter
5.4 Bathe Family: We received a thank you letter from the family of deceased David Bathe for our donation on his behalf; we also received a receipt of donation from OFAH in lieu of the $100 we donated on behalf of David Bathe.
5.5 North Hastings High School: We received an email from the teacher thanking us for our contribution to the Northern Outdoor Studies program.
6.0 Membership/Treasurer’s Report: Bank balance of $***** and 65 life and paid members. A motion to accept this report was made by Lori Pflanzer, and seconded by Kerry Toutant. PASSED.
7.0 Club Projects
7.1 Big Buck Day: Little Britain Community Centre is booked for Sunday April 14 2013. Kitchen staff is ready to go; Allen mentioned the recording software was difficult to work with last year, so we will see if it has been changed otherwise we will go back to the way we used to do it. There will be an ad in the Lindsay This Week and there’s a link to us on the FROW website. Randy wants to hold a small silent auction and one prize will be a handmade gun rack.
7.2 Kids Fishing Day: Will be held on May 11 2013. The first planning meeting was held on March 1. There will be another meeting on April 5. Some ideas for new activities include a fly fishing demonstration and scavenger hunt. The fish are ordered and Gagnon Sports has agreed to get two flats of worms in for us and will provide them to us at no cost.
7.3 Conservation Lottery Ticket Sales: We received a farmed print in award of winning 3rd place in OFAH Lottery Conservation Ticket Sales. Lori received this award on behalf of the club and Frank brought the print to the meeting. A motion was made to award Carl the framed print due to his leadership of the ticket sales. Motion was made by Lori Pflanzer, seconded by Frank Wick. PASSED. Sales were down due to attendance being down at the Sportsman Show and Fishing Show. We have sold approximately 250 books of tickets so far. We will be in the Oshawa Centre on April 22 – 28. Let Carl know when you are available to help out with this, one of our major club fundraisers.
7.4 Classroom Hatchery: No new information
7.5 Harmony Creek: We will schedule a date to do a walkabout at the dog park at our May meeting. There are four separate patches of Dog Strangling Vine present at the dog park. We should plan to manually pull it out. You have to pull the whole root or the plant will re-establish and then the plant needs to be burned.
8.0 New Business
8.1 The Ontario Sporting Dog Dinner and Silent auction will be held on Saturday April 13 2013 at the Lindsay Moose Hall. If you would like to attend, contact John Bell for your tickets.
8.2 Newsletter: The newsletter should be received at least two weeks in advance, so we should be sending it out 3 weeks in advance from now on.
8.3 PC Path to Prosperity paper: Our club will be writing to the PC government to express our concern on the paper’s proposed rolling of MNR into the Ministry of Northern Affairs with an emphasis on the importance of our Special Purposes account, which needs to be used for fish and wildlife conservation ONLY.
8.4 Coboconk deer yard: Our sign is looking a bit weathered and has incorrect information on it. We will look into getting a replacement sign up, and will go as a club to put it up with summer.
8.5 A motion was made as follows: For SCOFWA to pay up to $500 to cover the cost of having one of our Directors attend the OFAH Annual General Meeting and Wildlife Conference annually. The Director will be chosen by the SCOFWA Board of Directors annually at the January meeting. Motion was made by Frank Wick and seconded by Sharon Pflanzer. PASSED. Lori Pflanzer read a report on this year’s conference and a thank you for sponsoring her attendance. Copies of the OFAH Annual Report 2012 were provided to members.
8.6 Website: In the last 7 days we have had 30 visitors to the website. Visitors came directly, through search engines and from the FROW website. Visitors viewed photos, the Trading Post, the Big Buck Day 2013 page, the Kids Fishing Day page and the Calendar.
8.7 OFAH Zone E meeting to be held in Port Hope on Sunday March 24. Our members are encouraged to attend.
9.0 Next meeting dates: Our next meeting will be held on Thursday May 30 2013 7pm. The meeting after that will be held on Thursday September 5 2013 7pm.
10.0 A motion to adjourn was made by Allen Love and seconded by Todd Smith. PASSED. Meeting was adjourned at 9pm.
