Welcome to the website for South Central Ontario Fish & Wildlife Association (SCOFWA)!
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of Ontario's fish and wildlife populations, healthy habitats and promoting safe and enjoyable hunting, angling and other related outdoor activities.
Our club is based in Oshawa, but we do reach out to neighbouring communities for our conservation projects and outdoor heritage events. We host a Kids Fishing Day event in Heber Down Conservation Area in Whitby, a Big Buck Day event in Little Britain and a Sporting Dog Symposium in Oshawa.
In the past our club has been involved with maintenance of the winter deer yard in Coboconk, the installation of a 'report poaching' sign on Highway 115-35 near Orono, reclamation of the Second Marsh near Oshawa-Bowmanville, and much more.
We are currently preparing for some new conservation projects in the Durham area and will need volunteers for projects such as tree planting, removal of invasive species, water quality monitoring, restoring fish populations to streams, clearing of logjams in streams, culvert naturalization etc.
We will, of course, continue promoting safe and lawful hunting and angling by providing opportunities for our communities to get introduced to hunting and fishing. This could be in the form of sponsorship of youth to complete their hunter education course, providing mentorship to new hunters hoping to learn more about certain types of hunting (upland game, small game, waterfowl, big game), providing opportunities for youth and new residents to learn and experience successful angling. If members are interested, we can event hold learning sessions such as waterfowl identification, calling training sessions/youth competitions, techniques for hunting deer, fly tying etc.
To get involved, you can complete a membership application form and mail in with membership fees or come out to our next membership meeting to learn more and join later. See the join now section for more information on membership.
